The spirit, she ran fast and free
Through the brooks and brambles
And hawthorn trees
In the forest she was adored by all
The thorns and flowers
And leaves that drift in the fall
But I’m the one who caught your eye
The one to make you cry
I’m the one to bring you joy
I’m your dandelion boy
“I like the yellow”, she said
My petals bright and fluffy
The crown upon my head
She asked if she could take me too
My white seeds taking flight
And drifting out of view
I’m not your dandelion boy
To blow away in the breeze
I don’t want you to run away
And leave me on my knees
So instead with me she stayed behind
My leaves were drained of color
She said she didn’t mind
And as spring turned to summer
In the heat the small plants died
I never was without her
I was your dandelion boy
And for you I stood tall
You were my brightest joy
And stood with me at my fall
